About the Program
The B.S. in Environmental and Geographic Sciences, Geoscience Concentration, is an online geoscience degree specifically designed for community college transfer students. All courses are offered online, synchronously with on-campus courses. The only exception is an intensive, five-day field mapping course offered on the NCCU campus during the May intersession.
What You’ll Learn
The program is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of geosciences with a focus on a human-earth interaction. Coursework is designed for development of communication, critical thinking, field, and technical skills, such as GIS and remote sensing.
Certificate Option
Students enrolled in the online geoscience concentration can complete the Undergraduate Certificate in Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT), accredited by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation, in conjunction with their B.S. program. The GEOINT concentration provides students with capabilities in geospatial intelligence and opportunities for work in the intelligence community and allied disciplines.
Career Outcomes
According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the geoscience occupation is projected to grow 6 percent from 2018 to 2028 due to rising demand for energy, other natural resources, and environmental stewardship. This degree will prepare students for most entry-level geoscience careers and for graduate school.
The NCCU Department of Environmental, Earth and Geospatial Sciences has cultivated strong relationships with local government agencies, non-profit organizations, and businesses, ensuring a high rate of student summer internships and practical training placements.
